Lake Lure
Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful man-made lakes in the United States, Lake Lure is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Located about 27 miles Southeast of Asheville, Lake Lure sits in the Hickory Nut Gorge, surrounded by lush mountain tops and 1,000-foot sheer granite cliffs. Looking up from the lakeside one sees the famous Chimney Rock. From the top of Chimney Rock, there are spectacular views of the lake and gorge all around.
Lake Lure enjoys a unique microclimate that allows the area to offer mild winters, cool summers and an abundance of wildlife and a variety of trees and flowering plants. For over 100 years Lake Lure has been a go-to destination for wealthy travelers from across the United States and around the world.
Lake Lure, and the surrounding area, has been the sought after filming location for scenes from such movies as Hunger Games, Thunder Road, Dirty Dancing, A Breed Apart, Forrest Gump, The Last of the Mohicans and Firestarter.
